WATCHING VIDEO FILES
|
Q: What type of Internet connection is required to watch on-demand video files?
A: In order to access streaming video files via YSL or anywhere on the Internet, you’ll need a high speed Internet connection (DSL, Cable, FIOS connections) to view video files. Video files will not play properly using “dial-up” Internet service. |
|
Q: Can I view an event in real-time (i.e., live action)?
A: Most games are available through YSL’s Replay-on-Demand feature. If the game you are watching is a Live event you will need a high-speed Internet connection and Windows Media Player version 9 or higher. To get high-speed Internet access, please call your local cable or telephone provider. To obtain the newest version of Windows Media Player, please download it for free at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/default.mspx |
|
Q: My child made a spectacular play near the end of a game recently. Can I go directly to that section of the game, or do I have to watch the game from the beginning?
A: Yes! You can advance to any section of the game and rewind the play over and over. On the bar at the bottom of the Windows Media Player you will see a fast forward button, which operates in the same manner as the fast forward button works on a VCR or DVD player. Or to get to that section of the game faster, there is a “progress bar” at the bottom of the player that is slowly scrolling from left to right, as the game progresses. Simply click anywhere on the progress bar to jump to that point in the video. You can also click on the progress bar and drag it to the right. This will advance through the video frame-by-frame until you find the point in the video you want. Remember, if you want to save this memory for a lifetime, visit the “DVD” section of the website and order a DVD of the game. |
|
Q: Does the on-demand service allow me to download or save video files to my computer?
A: No, video files offered through the on-demand service cannot be downloaded directly to your PC because the content is copyright protected material. This is against YSL Policy as outlined in the User Agreement on the website. However, you can order a copy of a particular event on DVD. To request a DVD, please visit the DVD section on the YSL Web site. |
|
Q: Can I view an on-demand video using a cell phone?
A: Please check with your cell phone manufacturer and service provider about your specific phone’s features and if you able to view games on your phone, also inquire about any additional charges you may incur from your service provider. |
|
Q: Can I view an on-demand video using a wireless laptop computer?
A: Yes, provided you have a high speed Internet connection through the laptop. |
|
Q: What web browsers can I use to view Replay-on-Demand events?
A: The on-demand service is compatible with Internet Explorer, Safari, Firefox, Maxthon, and Opera web browsers. Regardless of which browser you use, you may need to install a browser “plug-in” to make the browser compatible with YSL’s encoded video files. Video files are best viewed using the latest version of Windows Media Player. This free player can be downloaded from www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/default.mspx. |

CONNECTION/VIEWING PROBLEMS
|
Q: When I open an on-demand video file, I get an error message that a “pop-up” has been blocked. How can I resolve this issue?
A: This message typically occurs when “pop-up blocker” software is being run from your web browser. There are several possibilities to solve this problem.
- In Internet Explorer, if you see a yellow bar near the top of your browser window, which has the message “A pop-up was blocked – click here for options.” Click on the bar, and you will be given the choice to temporarily allow “pop-ups” or to permanently allow the “pop-up” from our web site.
- If you do not see that yellow bar with the options, then holding down the control key (CTRL) while clicking on the link to the game file with allow the pop up screen to appear.

Q: I have no problems accessing my child’s contests via “on-demand” on my laptop at work; however, when I return home in the evening, the same game will not display properly on this same laptop. How can I resolve this issue?
A: It is likely that the Internet connection you have at work is high speed and the connection from home is not. YSL requires a high speed Internet connection (DSL, cable, FIOS connections) to view video files. Video files will not play properly using “dial-up” Internet service. |
|
Q: When I click on a link to view an on-demand video, the Media Player launches; however the screen stays black. How can I resolve this issue?
A: This can be caused by your video playback “plug-in” or by the speed of the Internet connection. Confirm you have the latest version of your browser and/or the plug-in. YSL requires a high speed Internet connection (DSL, cable, FIOS connections) to view video files. Video files will not play properly using “dial-up” Internet service. |
|
Q: When I try to view an on-demand video, the Media Player launches, and plays perfectly for a few seconds, the screen then freezes, and I see that it is “re-buffering”… it then plays for a few more seconds, freezes” and then rebuffers. How can I resolve this issue?
A: If you have many other applications opens at the same time you are trying to view a video, you could be running short of system resources. Try closing other applications and viewing the video again. If that doesn’t resolve the problem it may be that your Internet connection is not fast enough. Whether that’s a permanent or temporary situation depends on the type of Internet connection you have, as well as the time of day in which you are trying to view the video. |
|
Q: I can access the web site without difficulty; however, when I click on an on-demand video link, nothing happens. How can I resolve this issue?
A: It may be caused by your computer’s configuration, or a firewall product treating the video as a “pop-up.” Refer to the previous question about “pop-ups”. If you suspect it is a firewall issue, try temporarily disabling the firewall to see if you can view the video. |
|
Q: I can view the videos but there is no sound. How can I resolve this issue?
A: There could be several solutions: Make sure that the volume on your computer is not on mute. If using external speakers, make sure that they are turned on. Finally, make sure that the audio in the video playback software (e.g., Windows Media Player) is not turned off. |
